LIFE Ecuadorian scholar and politician, Osvaldo Hurtado lives in Quito, where he heads a think-tank: the Corporation for Development Studies (CORDES).
POLITICS He was vice-president (1979-1981) and president (1981-1984) of the Republic of Ecuador and chairman of the 1997-98 Constituent Assembly.
WORK He has written a dozen books on economic, social, political and cultural issues in Ecuador, as well as numerous essays and papers on Latin America.
